The article analyzes social and economic reforms in the US from the perspective of modernization. The author argues that modernization is a condition for maintaining American global leadership. The author examines reforms in the spheres of healthcare and education – areas considered by President Obama to be America’s top priorities. She also discusses the American political context and subsequent difficulties for implementing such changes. The author argues that the reforms, if they are successful, may bring about a transformation in the economic and social setup of the United States, but will not result in a complete and radical reconfiguration of the systemss.
