PRC and Central Asia Countries: Direct Investment Flows.
Direct investment plays an essential part in economic relations between the Central Asia countries and China. The article examines the direct investment exchange between the five post-soviet Central Asia states and China and provides some statistical data. It is argued that the investment flow from the PRC is mainly directed to the Central Asia countries. The author comes to a conclusion that the Chinese investments are generally concentrated in Kazakhstan's oil and gas sector. However, 2008 through 2009, China's cooperation with Turkmenistan in gas industry has intensified, which makes a substantial difference in the structure of Chinese investment.
