A long-term economic growth of a country particularly, depends on a large extent of long-term energy supply and pressure on the environment. India is expected to be able to maintain adequate energy supplies in the upcomig years. The utilization factor of coal-fired power plants is lower than expected throughout the country, and the abandonment of coal has become a fundamental factor in the new policy. This approach provides India with an excellent opportunity to lead the global transition to a clean energy economy. In connection with global warming and the dependence on fossil fuels weighing on the Indian economy, the question arises how to replace it? Renewables such as solar and grid upgrades should play an important role in replacing retired coal-fired capacity and thus slow the pace with the construction of new natural gas plants. The concept of the ecological Kuznets curve (EKC), which links economic development to pollution, is well known, with controversy over its shape, prevalence, and variables. The original EKC literature is limited to the quadratic form, while the newer literature states that the cubic form is more appropriate. The article examines the question of whether economic growth is influenced by environmental pollution, if so, how to avoid controversy in the context of India, using annual data covering the period from 1980 to 2017. ADF tests show that both series after the logarithmic transformation are non-stationary at the level and stationary at the first difference. This result confirms the hypothesis and empirically proves that emissions at the initial stage are the limiting factor of economic growth.
