Publication Type:

ISSN 0869-4435

The relevance of this study is due to the increased support of populism in the European Union. In the article the political culture of Bulgaria and Romania is researched. According to analysis of reasons for the success of leading politicians, as well as the political landscape, the author concludes that in these countries populism is characteristic of all the leading forces. However, despite using populism for tactical purposes, the ruling parties and the opposition cannot mobilize the people to solve fundamental economic and political problems in a democratic framework.
