The articles are devoted to the topical problems of the political and civilizational self-determination of today’s Russian society. Much attention is given to the interaction of internal and external factors that exert influence upon the political self-determination of mass and elite groups of modern Russian society, as well as on the formation of national development strategy of Russia in the globalized environment. Having analyzed a great body of sociological data, the authors have revealed the most important political and psychological orientations now prevailing in Russian society. Particular emphasis is placed on the intermediate position of Russia between the West and the East. Such a position has an effect on Russia’s internal and foreign policy, and on its relations with the main centers of political and economic power.
