The author of the article researches the dynamics and current trends in US oil and gas relations with Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Qatar, which have long been built on the principle of "oil for security". In the 21st century, new trends have emerged in the complex relationships that have determined the interdependence of these leading global energy players. First, the US shale revolution has reduced its demand for Middle East oil supplies and, consequently, led to a revision of its commitments to protect the Gulf monarchies. Second, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar have begun pursuing a more independent energy policy, turning towards China, thus reducing their dependence on the US as a market and partner. The author studies these trends at the corporate level: the participation of American majors in the Middle East oil and gas sector, presence of Gulf oil companies in the US energy sector and the activities of American and Middle East players in the third countries.
