The article discusses the basic approach of Donald Trump to life in general as well as religion and economy in particular. His negative assessment of previous administrations’ economic record was not immediate, but long lasting and stable with its major points formulated decades ago. One of them is the recognition of the inequitable and harmful character of bilateral and multilateral ties of the U.S. with its partners. The loss of America’s economic greatness he seems to attribute mostly to domestic industry’s relative decline. A specific worldview formed by the pseudo-religious concept of “positive thinking” underlays Trump’s endeavors. He learned the concept that essentially promotes positive, optimistic approach to life from its author and principal advocate Norman Vincent Peale. That very “positive thinking” is the basis of Trump’s permanent confidence of success and appraisal of any of his action in superlative terms. As to his religiosity, it is of pragmatic, utilitarian and mostly of ritual sort - he hardly knows the Bible, seems to lack churchgoing, however on important occasions emphasizes his commitment to Christianity. The two major religious groups that constitute his support (“host”) are evangelicals and prosperity gospel followers. Although differing on many points they see Trump as the champion of their religious and economic interests.
