Being in the conditions of the continuing effect of negative geopolitical circumstances, the world and especially the Russian automotive industry, going through the process of adaptation, are going through difficult times. But if in 2022, after the imposition of sanctions, the Russian automotive industry fell to a minimum, showing an absolute negative record in the entire recent history of the automotive market of our country, then the past 2023 proved that the domestic auto industry, despite the sanctions, not only managed to stay afloat, but even developed, albeit at a slow pace. At the present stage, given the imposed sanctions, the Russian auto industry has to constantly face a number of systematic problems and crises (lengthening the logistics path, increasing the size of the utilization fee, rising prices for cars, weakening the national currency, an increase in the key rate by the Central Bank, and, accordingly, a decrease in the availability of car loans), which in turn, slow down already insignificant growth rates. Under the influence of sanctions, the very structure of the Russian automobile market changed - instead of the departed world manufacturers, China made a massive entry into the Russian market. Russia, due to sanctions, has to repeat the path already traveled in the localization of the automotive industry to achieve technological sovereignty. The article presents the dynamics of production and sales of motor vehicles, passenger cars in Russia, the world as a whole and certain leading countries of manufacturers, displays the dynamics of overproduction, the dynamics of sales of electric vehicles in the EU.
