Two distinct approaches as either “nomothetic” or “idiographic” ones in accordance with dichotomous scheme, which is typical for Neo-Kantian philosophy can be considered as heuristically valuable, but philosophically not sufficient. Thus, historical thought and historical studies can be attributed to the “idiographic” field of knowledge, but they have their special “Nomos” too, as they reflect and sustain human original intention to resist death and oblivion. If death is the ultima ratio of organic natural life, then aspiration for immortality is the ultima ratio of human existence, thought and culture.
