The following paper evaluates economic interrelations between Russia and the post-Soviet member - states of the EU ‘The Eastern Partnership' initiative. The study thoroughly examines the problématique of Russia's economic relations with the post-Soviet countries and one's impact on Russian political relations with these states. The authors explore the transition of Russian foreign policy from the imitation of unity to the employment of the strategy of pragmatic calculation. The issues of contradictions within the milieu of economic interrelations between Russia and Georgia, Belorussia, Moldova, and Ukraine are analyzed. The conclusion is that from the mid-2000s political issues have outweighed economic facets of Russian politics in the region and the ties with the post-Soviet countries in Eastern Europe, which were valued previously, are now severed due to political clashes.
