The relevance of the article is determined by the search for effective solutions to modern demographic problems in European countries. This article is devoted to the study of the impact of immigration on demographic processes and the determination of the results of family policy in the continental countries of Western Europe. The research methodology is based on the study of demographic processes from the standpoint of the theory of demographic transition; on the consideration of the family policy of Western European countries in context of welfare state models; on the application of statistical analysis of international organizations data.  The main conclusions of the study are that the Western European countries have acute socio-demographic imbalances, the nature of which is determined by the stage of the demographic transition. Immigration contributes to an increase in the birth rate in the receiving countries, but it is not able to support simple reproduction of the population and generates a number of negative effects in the socio-political sphere. The results make it possible to judge the weakening of family role in the course of the European values system transformation, the convergence of family policy models on the continent, and the borrowing of reproductive local models by foreigners. The favorable demographic situation in France is explained by a different type of family policy model, characterized by the encouragement of large families, active pronatalist measures and the initial focus on promoting women's employment. The development and implementation of the family policy measures in the Russia, taking into account the experience of Western European countries, can help improve the demographic situation in the country.
