The image of Russia through the eyes of the West. A historical excursion

The article attempts to analyze some of the factors of negative approaches of Western analysts to Russia and its peoples, the most aggressive of whom do not shun franc Russophobia. The main attention is focused on the historical past from the period of Ivan III to the first decades of the twentieth century. It is shown that in the turning points of the historical development of the world community, and especially the growth of Russian power and influence of its negative interpretation and assessment are of particular urgency and aggressiveness.
