The paper explores gas transportation corridors in the Caspian and Black Sea region. The interests of the gas - producing countries and the European Union as the main consumer are analyzed. The paper examines the documents of the European Commission on energy policy as well as the intergovernmental documents, statistical data of exporting countries on gas reserves, production and volumes of supply to the EU. The authors show that the European Union seeks to increase volumes of gas import from the Caspian and Black Sea region. Political interest of the consumer in the gas transportation project leads to its implementation in the conditions of economic and political uncertainty: existence of sufficient reserves of gas only for delivery in short - and midterm perspectives, sanctions policy against a number of producing states. The potential competition between the gas producing countries in the Caspian-Black Sea region is also considered.
