Disinformation and fakes in the Western media as a form of information warfare against state sovereignty on the example of Yugoslavia and Ukraine // Postsovetskie issledovaniya = Post-Soviet Studies. 2025. Vol. 8. № 1. Р. 87–98. (In Russ.)

This article discusses double standards in Western media coverage, fake news and disinformation techniques. The author argues that the Western media have a long experience of creating a distorted picture of what is happening with regard to military conflicts, color revolutions and other events of great importance to society. The article discusses in detail the so-called «conspiracy of silence» of the Western media and in fact their active participation, which served as a prelude to military intervention in the conflict in Yugoslavia. «Conspiracy of silence» of the West indicates an extremely biased and biased attitude to the complex processes of interethnic and interreligious relations in Yugoslavia and Ukraine. Acceptance of the rightness of one side of the conflict and attempts to demonize the other led in both cases considered in the article to a strong change in the vectors of socio-political development of both Yugoslavia (the collapse of the country, a decade of sanctions, inter-ethnic conflicts, involving millions of refugees, numerous human and material losses) and Ukraine, which is likely to still have to go through the final phase of disintegration and disintegration into zones of influence. The author elaborates on the foreign roots and sponsors of the political processes that preceded the active conflicts in both states, and traces the common narratives and ideologems used by the media and political circles of the West to promote their geopolitical interests. Despite all the differences in the architecture and background of the two conflicts, we can identify several points that unite them, namely in the sphere of information warfare - double standards, mass use of fakes, blockades of truthful information, persecution of dissenters and aggressive promotion of«necessary» narratives. This experience of using the media as a tool of a full-scale multi-vector war is far from the first, but in these two cases it has been most crystallized. This approach poses new challenges for countries that may face such information aggression in the future. In this way, the media become a tool for undermining state sovereignty, overthrowing state power and an instrument of information support for one of the parties to the conflict.
