Anti-Americanism in Turkey and Greece: a Comparative Analysis

Anti-Americanism is quite widespread in Greece and Turkey, despite the two countries’ close military and political ties with the United States. The Anti-American sentiments originated in both countries almost simultaneously while they joined the Western bloc soon after the World War II. The political and cultural anti-Americanism has remained relevant both in Greece and Turkey for many decades. The Greek and Turkish societies differ significantly in their assessments of Washington’s policies, but often perceive them critically as contradicting to the national interests of Athens and Ankara.
