Climate challenges and environmental problems of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations countries and their impact on the socio-economic stability of the region are of utmost importance. The article provides a set of recommendations (two political-economic and one socio-economic) to minimize the damage caused by them. The main objective is not to exacerbate the problem caused by natural disasters or additional man-made factors, otherwise a negative synergy effect may occur, which can lead to catastrophic consequences. The first political and economic recommendation is the fastest possible transition of the countries of the region to a closed economy. The second political and economic recommendation is to resolve the existing climate and energy paradox in the countries of the region, as heavy subsidies for fossil fuel extraction continue. In addition to the above two political and economic recommendations, it is necessary to implement a socio-economic recommendation, since the adverse effects of extreme weather events are relevant to people’s mental health, which directly affects their political and economic activity. Comprehensive practical implementation of the developed political, economic and socio-economic recommendations will minimize the damage from climate and environmental challenges in the countries of the region. The article will be of interest to scientific and educational organizations, as well as relevant agencies dealing with the socio-economic situation of the countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in the context of the climate agenda.
