The article “Diarchy in Afghanistan may last longer. The neighboring countries are closely following Afghanistan’s domestic political situation” by Stanislav Ivanov was published on the website of the information-analytical journal “InfoSCO”.

“The full withdrawal of the troops of the USA and the NATO from Afghanistan, which was originally scheduled for the end of August to early September 2021, has not been completed, as the opposition movement called the Taliban (banned in Russia) has dramatically intensified its political and military activities. The Taliban tried to put Kabul under pressure and reach a peace agreement with the representatives of the central authorities through the mediation of the United States, Russia, Iran and other countries. At the same time, they demanded to release about 7000 supporters from government prisons and camps, to legalize the movement as a political force, to integrate the Taliban into the government power structure.

The prolongation and the sabotage of the negotiations with the Taliban by the Administration of the current President of the Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani lead to the frustration of the peace agreement, reached between the parties to the conflict, which was to be signed in Doha, the capital of Qatar.”
