On September 5, 2024, the Nezavisimaya Gazeta website published an article by Ilya Guzhev and Evgenii Belkov, employees of the Laboratory “Center for the Middle East Studies”, entitled “The Situation of Women in Afghanistan is Worsening Every Day”.
The authorities are trying to subordinate the population not to Islamic rules, but rather to the norms of Pashtun customary law.
