On December 24, 2024, Dmitry Stefanovich, Research Fellow of the Center for International Security of IMEMO, in a commentary for “Lenta.ru” did not rule out the possibility of an armed conflict with NATO. At the same time, according to the the expert's opinion, such a conflict could be triggered by a variety of events.
The confrontation could start, in particular, because of attempts to restrict Russian shipping in the Baltic Sea, shooting down Western reconnaissance planes or satellites operating in Ukraine over the Black Sea.
