On August 8, 2024, Alexander Krylov, Chief Research Fellow of the Sector for the Caucasus of the Center for post-Soviet Studies of IMEMO, Dr. of Science (History), commented to the Armenian news channel "Alpha News" on the news that in the new textbook of Armenian history, the accession of Eastern Armenia to the Russian Empire in 1828 is called annexation: "By demonstrating anti-Russian interpretation of history, the leadership of Armenia hopes to join NATO and the EU".
