Interview of Viktor Kuzminkov to “Vedomosti” newspaper

On July 23, 2025, Viktor Kuzminkov, Lead Researcher of the Group of Economics and Politics of Japan of the Center for Asia Pacific Studies of IMEMO, gave an interview to “Vedomosti” newspaper, in which he commented on the results of trade negotiations between the United States and Japan.

In his interview, V.V. Kuzminkov emphasized that increasing duties from 2.5% to 15% and opening the Japanese market to the American auto industry raise questions about the benefits for Japan. The benefits can be discussed only if we consider duties of 15% as an alternative to possible 25%, but not in relation to the initial 2.5%.
