On October 21, 2025, Viktor Kuzminkov, Lead Researcher of the Group of Economics and Politics of Japan of the Center for Asia Pacific Studies of IMEMO, commented for Komsomolskaya Pravda on the prospects for Russian-Japanese relations under the new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

In his commentary, V.V. Kuzminkov noted that much will depend on how the crisis around Ukraine is resolved and the behavior of Washington, whose position Takaichi is directly aligning with. If Russian-American dialogue improves, Japan may also return to renewing its previously existing economic ties with our country. There are people in the new Prime Minister's entourage who are ready to take this on.
