8The regular meeting of the scientific-theoretical seminar of the Center for Comparative Socio-Economic and Political Studies of the IMEMO was held on February 16, 2021.
Assistant professor of the Department of comparative political science at the MGIMO University Cand. of Science (Politics) Irina Kudryashova made a report “The Divided Societies in the Countries of the Middle East: the experience of spatial analysis” at the meeting. It represented the author's view on the nature of the current ethno-confessional conflicts in the Middle East states, and on the possibility of their settlement and subsequent transformation. There was put forward a hypothesis that the growth of armed confrontation between ethno-cultural segments, which can be observed in the present, is largely driven by the violation of the regimes of control over the periphery, which developed during the imperial period.
