On March 3, 2025 in the small conference hall (room 03-04) the next meeting of the Scientific and Theoretical seminar of the Center for Comparative Socio-Economic and Political Studies (CCSEPS) of IMEMO was held.
The topic of the Seminar: “Modeling Demographic Growth: Factors, Mechanisms, Reserves”.
The reports were delivered by the employees of the Sector of Social and Economic Development and Migration Processes Studies of the CCSEPS: Evgeniy Balatsky Chief Research Fellow, Dr. of Science (Economics), and Natalya Ekimova, Senior Researcher, Cand. of Science (Economics).
The authors presented a three-stage econometric model of the demographic growth process, which includes economic, institutional and cultural factors. An earlier version of the model was tested in 15 countries and demonstrated its universality and suitability for applied calculations. Its application to Russia made it possible to raise the question of the possibility of the country implementing a large-scale demographic expansion, which implies doubling the population of Russia in 50 years. Calculations using the model made it possible to consider different scenarios for such development of the country and showed the fundamental feasibility of the goal, which has been voiced by the authorities recently. The target values of the indicators that should be reached to ensure the task of doubling the country's population are discussed.
It is emphasized that achieving the set task is possible only with the consistent and synchronous use of economic and cultural-institutional factors, which means a sustainable increase in the well-being of the population and ideological work to form an attractive image of a large family.
The Q&A session and the ensuing interested and lively discussion were attended by employees of the Center for Social and Economic Policy and the head of the Department of Social and Economic Policy, Sector for forecasting the global economy and politics G.I. Machavariani.
