On April 30, 2026, the XI Vietnam Day was held at MGIMO University of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. It was organized by the Vietnamese Community and the ASEAN Center with the support of the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in the Russian Federation and Far Eastern Federal University.

Daria Lartseva, Junior Research Fellow of the Sector of New Challenges in South and Southeast Asia of the Center of the Indo-Pacific Region of IMEMO, participated in the event. Together with Egor Petrov, postgraduate student of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, she presented a report "Prospects for Cooperation between Thailand and Vietnam in the Sphere of Digital Economy".

The report examined the implementation of modern digital technologies in the economies of Vietnam and Thailand, as well as prospects for bilateral cooperation in this area. Vietnam and Thailand are among the largest markets in ASEAN in terms of internet usage, internet coverage, and smartphone ownership per capita, making these countries promising destinations for investment in the digital economy.

Both countries are major trading partners within ASEAN, and in 2025 they elevated their bilateral relations by signing a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement. The document specifically emphasized that the areas of artificial intelligence and fintech, as well as the exchange of high-tech and innovation specialists, would form the basis for expanding bilateral ties. Since 2021, Thailand and Vietnam have implemented a cross-border online bank transfer system based on Thailand's PromptPay and Vietnam's VietQR, which also provides a strong foundation for expanding cooperation in the banking sector.

The report's main conclusion is that while Vietnam and Thailand not only cooperate but also compete in the digital economy, they still have opportunities for mutually beneficial partnerships in various sectors, from high-tech manufacturing to e-commerce.
