Visit of IMEMO delegation to Bishkek

During the visit of IMEMO delegation to Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) on May 20, 2024, a Joint Scientific-Practical Seminar “Russia and Kyrgyzstan in the New International Conditions: Challenges, Opportunities, Prospects” was held with the Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University (KRSU).

The event was attended by IMEMO Director Feodor Voitolovsky, Acting Deputy Director Sergey Afontsev, Head of the Center for post-Soviet Studies Eduard Solovyev and Head of the Sector for Central Asia Stanislav Pritchin.

The seminar was moderated by Rector of KRSU Denis Fomin-Nilov and Director of IMEMO.

During the discussion, IMEMO and KRSU experts exchanged views on Russian-Kyrgyz relations at the present stage, discussed the dynamics of trade, economic and humanitarian ties, difficulties and new opportunities for the development of cooperation.

Major international infrastructure and energy projects in the region were also discussed. Considerable attention was paid to the problems of regional security, as well as to social processes, including the interconnection of labor markets of the two countries.  

On May 20-21, the IMEMO delegation held a number of meetings with representatives of other scientific centers and officials of Kyrgyzstan.  

The IMEMO and KRSU leadership reached agreements to expand scientific cooperation in bilateral and trilateral format – with the participation of MGIMO University of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
