28Minister of the Foreign Affairs of India, His Excellency Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar gave a speech at the IMEMO. The topic was “India-Russia relations in the changing world”.
President of the IMEMO Academician Alexander Dynkin made a welcoming speech. He emphasized the similar interests of India and Russia in building a multipolar world and in reluctance to join the growing confrontation between the United States and China. The speaker also expressed confidence that close the cooperation with India on a wide range of global and regional problems would remain constant in the foreign policy of Russia.
Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, in his turn, pointed out that throughout the history of independent India, the relationship between Moscow and New Delhi has been developing steadily. This amazing sustainability deserves great attention. According to the Minister, the decisive factor in Russia-India cooperation is the conceptual agreement between the two countries on the necessity of establishing a multipolar world, where Russia and India occupy positions corresponding to their interests and resources, and work against the dominant or hegemonic aspirations of other countries.
The Minister of the Foreign Affairs of India stated that in order to further develop the bilateral relations, the changes taking place in different parts of the world should be taken into account. He particularly stressed the importance of the Indo-Pacific concept in India's foreign policy, and expressed hope, that the cooperation between Russia and India in the Far East will be an important part of the realization of this concept.
