Field Session of the International Forum "Primakov Readings”

On November 1-2 a field session of the International Scientific and Expert Forum "Primakov Readings" was held in Yerevan (Republic of Armenia). 

The event was organized by Primakov National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations, Russian Academy of Sciences (IMEMO), the Representative Office of Rossotrudnichestvo in the Republic of Armenia (Russian House), Institute of Oriental Studies, National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia (IOS NAS RA) with the support of the Analytical Center for Strategic Studies and Initiatives (ACSSI).

During the two-day discussion on the most pressing issues in the development of the South Caucasus, experts from Russia and Armenia discussed the issues of regional strategic security, economic development prospects, the interests of extra-regional factors and the regional dimension of the transformation of the world order. 

The purpose of the event was to develop a dialogue between the scientific and expert communities of the two countries on the key issues of the bilateral agenda and the regional refraction of the world transformations. 

At the opening session Sergey Kopyrkin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Armenia, Ashot Saghyan, President of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, Feodor Voitolovsky, Director of IMEMO, Yuri Suvaryan, Academician-Secretary of the Department of Armenology and Social Sciences of NAS RA, Robert Ghazaryan, Director of Institute of Oriental Studies of NAS RA, Dmitry Polikanov, Deputy Head of Rossotrudnichestvo and Vadim Fefilov, Head of the Representative Office of Rossotrudnichestvo in the Republic of Armenia welcomed the participants. 

Academician of NAS RA Ruben Safrastyan, Director of the Caucasus Institute Alexander Iskandaryan and Deputy Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Skakov participated in the meeting of the field session of "Primakov Readings" in Yerevan. 

IMEMO was also represented at the event by

  • Eduard Solovyev, Head of the Center for post-Soviet Studies;
  • Vadim Mukhanov, Head of the Sector for the Caucasus;
  • Elena Kuzmina, Head of the Sector for Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine;
  • Azganush Migranyan, Lead Researcher of the Center for post-Soviet Studies;
  • Irina Svistunova, Senior Researcher of the Center for the Middle East Studies
  • Alexander Krylov, Chief Research Fellow of the Center for post-Soviet Studies. 

Among the speakers of the field session were Gohar Iskandaryan, Head of Department of Iranian Studies of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia; Araks Pashayan, Head of the Department of International Relations of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia; Johnny Melikyan, co-founder of the Analytical Center for Strategic Studies and Initiatives (ACSSI); Ashot Tavadyan, Head of the Center for Economic Research of Armenia and other representatives of the Armenian expert community.

The Scientific and Expert Forum "Primakov Readings" has been held since 2015 and is the largest annual international conference of experts in the field of world economy, international relations and security in Russia and Eastern Europe. In 2019 field sessions of the Forum were held in Sofia (Bulgaria) and Yerevan (Armenia).
