Ceremonial Meeting of the Academic Council of IMEMO

On April 16, 2026, a ceremonial meeting of the Academic Council of IMEMO was held to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Institute. The event brought together leading Russian scientists, diplomats, representatives of law enforcement agencies and the legislative authorities, with whom the Institute shares many years of collaborative work.

The meeting was opened by Academician Alexander Dynkin, President of IMEMO. He emphasized that this milestone is of particular significance and highlighted the importance of the Institute's research for shaping the country's foreign policy.

Andrey Fursenko, Aide to the President of the Russian Federation, delivered a congratulatory message from the head of state Vladimir Putin, in which he emphasized the Institute's substantial experience, the key directions of its work, contribution to the formation of authoritative academic schools and the establishment of a tradition of tireless, dedicated work.

Alexander Venediktov, Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, stressed that the current international situation requires fresh approaches and scenario forecasting based both on the current environment and taking into account the medium-term perspective. In his view, such analysis helps to identify risks and threats in a timely manner. This work culminates in decisions made by the President of the Russian Federation, aimed at ensuring national security and defining the strategic foreign policy course.

Vladislav Panchenko, Vice President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, conveyed congratulations from the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Gennady Krasnikov:

"IMEMO has always had brilliant scientists, statesmen, and members of the Academy of Sciences. Thanks to the highest professional standards they set, IMEMO has become a leading scientific expert center and today occupies a special place among economic institutes of the humanities profile".

Grigory Karasin, Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs, read out congratulations from Valentina Matvienko, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.

In his speech, Alexander Grushko, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, noted that at the current turning point in history, diplomatic practice requires the foreign policy agency to pay attention to all problems, and the work done by the Institute helps diplomats see the world through the eyes of scientists.

Sergey Mikheev, State Secretary and Deputy Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), noted in his address that the result of the joint work of the SVR and IMEMO is the development of precisely verified decisions aimed at ensuring the security of our country. He also conveyed congratulations from the Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service, Sergey Naryshkin.

The main report on the activities of the Institute over the past ten years was presented by Feodor Voitolovsky, Director, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

For seven decades, IMEMO has remained the leading Russian analytical center in the fields of world economy, international relations and national security. The research and forecasts of the Institute are taken into account when preparing state decisions and are in demand by the professional expert community both in Russia and abroad.

The anniversary of IMEMO is not only an occasion to summarize the results of many years of scientific activity, but also an opportunity to present to a wide audience up-to-date expert assessments of key trends in world politics and economy, as well as possible scenarios for the development of the modern world order.
