A major Japanese state award, The Order of the Rising Sun (Gold Rays with Rosette) was officially presented to Elena Leontieva, Chief Research Fellow at the Center for Asia Pacific Studies of IMEMO on May 4th, 2018. The Imperial Decree awarding the order for "promoting studies of Japanese economy in Russia and mutual understanding between Japan and Russia" was signed in April 2017. The award was presented to Elena Leontieva by Toshio Yamamoto, Minister of the Embassy of Japan in Russia.
