IMEMO RAN held the eighth conference in the framework of the joint project Russia and the Deep Nuclear Disarmament implemented in cooperation with the Nuclear Threat Initiative, Inc. The conference was titled «Interconnection between nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation: reality or myth?» IMEMO RAN also presented a brochure with the same title.
Presentations by the key speakers were followed by a discussion of the most pressing issues pertaining to arms limitations and reductions, non-proliferation and security in general. The participants in the conference focused on the main topic, the interconnection between nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, as ell as to the situation and the efficiency of international non-proliferation institutions and strengthening of IAEA safeguards as the major non-proliferation instrument. The conference that gathered several dozens independent experts, officials of the relevant government structure and mass media, provided a venue for a lively exchange of opinions on a wide range of issues related to strengthening national and international security.
