17The article “Fostering Tolerance in Europe: Issues of Migration and Populism in Italy”, written in the co-authorship with Maxim Sigachev, is published on the website of the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC).
“Tolerance remains a challenging issue both in the West and in Russia. However, the problem remains one of taking into account the link between the concepts of tolerance, social security and social development. The West tends to take a broader view of tolerance compared to the Russian practice. In Europe the concept of tolerance is based on the active cooperation and not just on the patience, as it is understood in Russia.
In Europe there are at least four dimensions of this issue:
- one, which regard to the EU regulatory programs;
- one, with regard to the local communities;
- one, with regard to the European societies in general;
- one, which regard to populism and Euroscepticism, which are considered to be a source of intolerance towards migrants and refugees.”
