The journal "Baltic Region" (No. 2, 2026) published an article by Igor Zhukovsky, Senior Researcher of the Baltic Sea Region Integrated Research Group of the Center for Strategic Planning of IMEMO, Cand. of Science (Politics), "The Baltic Region in Poland’s Security Policy: Strategic Assessments and Response".

Based on institutional analysis methods, this article, for the first time in Russian research, examines existing strategic assessments of the role of the Baltic region in contemporary security policy of Poland, on the basis of which military-diplomatic initiatives are undertaken and adjustments of planning are made in terms of programs for the development and modernization of the armed forces. On the basis of strategic planning documents in the field of foreign and security policy, examining the body of legislative acts and statements of the Polish military-political leaders, the author characterizes the architecture of priorities of contemporary security policy of Poland. The results of the study demonstrate the rapidly growing importance of the Baltic region in Polish security policy since the global political crisis intensified in 2022. This is expressed in the ongoing systemic adaptation of state institutions to the possibility of autonomous action in the Baltic region: consistent steps are being taken to develop Poland's own defensive potential, with an emphasis on constructing a regional (Baltic) security architecture. The study contributes to an understanding of the region-wide security dynamics in the Baltic region, which has practical implications for the foreign policy planning institutions of the Russian Federation.
