The article "China's Scientific and Technological Potential under US Technological Sanctions" by Ekaterina Zaklyazminskaya, Research Fellow of IMEMO, Cand. of Science (Economics), was published in the English version of the Herald of the Russian Academy of Sciences (2022, Vol. 92, No. 5, pp. 643-649).

The article analyzes the scientific and technological potential of China under increasing sanctions pressure, assesses the competitiveness of the country's scientific and technological developments and the position of Chinese unicorn companies in the global startup market. The author characterizes the main state support measures contributing to the growth of R&D expenditures, identifies the key risks and threats faced by China in its transition to a new technological order. The study proves that the policy of containment of China pursued by Western countries is determined by the growing competitiveness of Chinese developments and is primarily aimed at the industries in which China has managed to take a leading position. The high share of R&D expenditures in China is supported by the preferential tax policy. The effectiveness of Chinese developments is determined by the strategic planning of research directions by the authorities. The main risks to the development of the country's innovative potential are associated with the sanctions pressure on sensitive sectors of the national economy, among which the ban on supplies of semiconductor products to Chinese companies poses the greatest threat.
