The article “The Military Dimension of the Outer Space: Today and Tomorrow” by Research Fellow for the Sector of Military and Innovations of the Center for International Security of the IMEMO Dmitry Stefanovich was published in the journal “New Defence Order. Strategy”, Issue 2 (73) for the year 2022.

The space exploration programs have had a military dimension since the beginning of the space age. In recent years, we have been witnessing an evolution in the approaches to its use. The “New Space” is involved in defense programs, the dependence of the earthly operations of the armed forces on the orbital infrastructure is growing. The Outer Space Treaty only prohibits the deployment of the weapons of mass destruction, which means that the threat of the creation of the “conventional” space weapons remains.
