Situational Analysis “Security Problems in the Balkans, Eastern Mediterranean and Sahel”

On December 19, 2024, the Situational Analysis “Security Problems in the Balkans, Eastern Mediterranean and Sahel” was held at the HSE University. The event was organized by the Mediterranean Studies Center of the HSE University in cooperation with Evgeny Primakov Center for International Cooperation.

Irina Svistunova, Senior Researcher of the Laboratory “Center for the Middle Eastern Studies” of IMEMO, Cand. of Science (History), made a report “Turkey's Policy in the Eastern Mediterranean: Prospects and Challenges” as part of the situational analysis.

The expert discussions included a discussion of the state of Western security institutions on the example of the Balkan and Sahara-Sahel regions, as well as the prospects and challenges of Turkey's policy in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Representatives of leading research and analytical centers of Russia, including the HSE University, the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Institute of African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, IMEMO, RIAC and MGIMO University, took part in the situational analysis.
