On March 28, 2025, the Center of the Indo-Pacific Region of IMEMO held a Seminar “Looking Half a Century Ahead: India on the Path to Great Power Status”

The event was attended by Arvind Gupta, Director of the Vivekananda International Foundation, Deputy National Security Advisor and Secretary of National Security Council of India in 2014–2017; Manjeet Kripalani, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Gateway House think tank; Syed Akbaruddin, Dean of the Kautilya School of Public Policy, India's Permanent Representative at the United Nations in 2016–2020; Surjit Bhalla, Dr. of Science (Economics), Member of the Advisory Board of the EGROW Foundation, Executive Director for India at the International Monetary Fund on behalf of the Republic of India in 2019–2022; Amit Bhandari, Senior Fellow of the “Energy, Investment and Connectivity” Sector of the Gateway House think tank; Sujit Dutta, Distinguished Fellow of the Vivekananda International Foundation, Editor of National Security journal, as well as representatives of the Embassy of India in Russia and IMEMO employees.

Feodor Voitolovsky, Director of IMEMO, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Dr. of Sciences (Politics), addressed the audience with a welcoming speech.

The discussion was moderated by Alexey Kupriyanov, Head of the Center of the Indo-Pacific Region of IMEMO, Cand. of Science (History).

The participants discussed India's socio-economic development and its priorities in the foreign policy arena. The central topics of the discussion included security in the Greater Indian Ocean region, India's relations with China, including in the context of the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States, as well as its interaction with the Persian Gulf countries, Iran and New Delhi's vision of the situation in the Middle East. Special attention was paid to Russian-Indian cooperation with a focus on joint projects in the development of transport corridors and infrastructure in the context of the transformation of the world order to ensure stable growth of the economies of the two countries.
