On May, 13, an academic seminar «Eurasia: The Birth of a New Continent» was held at the IMEMO. The speaker was a Portuguese scholar Bruno Maçães – non-resident senior fellow of the Hudson Institute (USA) and the Renmin University (China), as well as a senior advisor at Flint Global consulting company in London (UK).

During the presentation the speaker performed the analysis of key trends in the trade and economic interaction of Eurasian countries, the prospects for the economic and technological development of China, the value of the Chinese “Belt and Road Initiative” for regional economic and political development, consequences of the transformations in Eurasia for USA, Europe and Russia.

After the presentation a discussion took place. The participants of the seminar discussed the issues of political and cultural interaction between European and Asian countries, opportunities and limitations for ideological and political transformations in China, US interests in Eurasia and the options for US strategy in the region, as well as Russia's role and place in changing geopolitical conditions.
