Presentation of the Russian edition of the SIPRI Yearbook 2016

October 3, 2017. IMEMO launched the Russian edition of the SIPRI Yearbook 2016 ‘Armaments, Disarmament and International Security’ which included the Special Supplement compiled by IMEMO experts and guest contributors.
The Russian edition of the SIPRI Yearbook is a multi-year joint project of the Primakov National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).
 
Academician Alexey G. Arbatov, Head of the Center for International Security, opened the event stating the high standards that IMEMO traditionally maintained in preparing the Russian edition. Introducing the Yearbook
Academician Alexander A. Dynkin, IMEMO President, emphasized particular importance of cooperation between the two institutes in the current crisis of international security. One of the founders of the project,
Academician Vladimir G. Baranovsky, Head of Division at the IMEMO Center for Situation Analysis, shared his memories of the project background and indicated a number of promising areas of today’s military-political studies.
Sergey K. Oznobishchev, Head of Division at the Center for International Security, told the participants about the process of preparing the Russian edition and some important topics analyzed in the Special Supplement.
The issues raised in the SIPRI Yearbook caused a lively discussion among the attendees.

The presentation generated considerable interest within the Russian and foreign expert community bringing together more than sixty representatives of governmental organizations and agencies, embassies, institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, independent research centers, NGOs, and media.
