Presentation of the 2021 SIPRI Yearbook and Conference “Arms Control and International Security 2022”

On November 3, 2022, IMEMO hosted a presentation of the Russian edition of the SIPRI Yearbook 2021: “Armaments, Disarmament and International Security”, including the Special Supplement of IMEMO, as well as a separate English edition of the Supplement “Russia: Arms Control, Disarmament and International Security”. Within the framework of this event, the Center for International Security (CIS) at IMEMO also held a Conference under the title “Arms Control and International Security 2022” that featured presentations by the IMEMO staff. This year’s event was held without participation from external experts and specialists.

Both publications were prepared as part of a joint project between the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) and the Primakov National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations, Russian Academy of Sciences (IMEMO).

The meeting was started off by the Head of the CIS, IMEMO, Academician Alexey Arbatov.

Director of IMEMO, Corresponding Member of RAS Feodor Voitolovsky, delivered a welcoming address to the participants of the event.

At the Conference, presentations were provided by the following speakers*): Senior Researcher at the CIS Konstantin Bogdanov ("Non-Strategic Nuclear Weapons as the Factor of Modern Arms Control Developments"); Junior Researcher at the CIS Vasily Klimov ("Missile Defense on the Arms Control Agenda"); Junior Researcher at the CIS Daria Selezneva ("Treaty on the Nonproliferation of Nuclear Weapons: Problems and Prospects"); Leading Researcher at the CIS Natalia Bubnova ("Russian Special Military Operation in Ukraine and Arms Control"); Senior Researcher, Head of the Group at the CIS Marianna Yevtodyeva ("Ukrainian Crisis and Arms Trade"); and the Head of the Department at the CIS Andrei Zagorski ("Prospects for Conventional Arms Control in Europe").

In the subsequent discussion, presentations were made by Junior Researcher at the Center for North American Studies Ilya Kramnik; Junior Researcher at the CIS Sergey Rastoltsev; and Senior Researcher, Head of the Group at the CIS Natalia Romashkina. The issues discussed at the Conference sparked a lot of interest and discussion among the participants of the event.
