18There was held the second scientific-practical seminar of the IMEMO, the RIAC and the MEMO Journal. It was dedicated to the study of the current problems of the international relations. The topic was “Security First: the current issues of the non-proliferation and arms control regimes”.
The following questions were discussed during the meeting on November 16, 2021:
- The current state of the non-proliferation and arms control regimes;
- The prospects for development of the special regimes for the new kinds of weapons;
- The challenges and the prospects of creating a global regime in the field of cybersecurity;
- The Russia-America arms control cooperation: the opportunities and the limitations;
- The issues of the Euro-Atlantic security: a new round of the escalation in Russia-NATO relations and the fate of treaties in the field of European security;
- Strengthening of the military potential of the PRC and the prospects for involving China in negotiations on strategic arms.
Russian Lead Researchers in the field of international relations made reports at the event. They were:
- Director General of the Russian International Affairs Council Andrey Kortunov;
- Academic Director of the RAS Institute of US and Canadian Studies, RIAC Member Sergey Rogov;
- Chairman of PIR Center, Vice-President of the RIAC Evgeny Buzhinsky;

- Head of the Department for European Security of the Institute of Europe of the RAS Dmitry Danilov;
- Deputy Director of the Centre for Comprehensive European and International Studies (CCEIS) of the HSE University, Leading Research Fellow at the Center of Strategic Problems of Northeast Asia, SCO and BRICS, Institute of Far Eastern Studies, RAS, RIAC Member Vasily Kashin.
