Seminar "Trust, but Verify: Testing Hypothesis in International Studies"

On December 8, 2025, the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of IMEMO held the Scientific Seminar "Trust, but Verify: Testing Hypothesis in International Studies" in the Academician Inozemtsev Hall.

Presentations were made by:

  • •    Alexander Aleshin, Cand. of Science (Politics), Senior Researcher of the Department of International Political Problems;
  • •    Kseniia Subkhangulova, Cand. of Science (Economics), Research Fellow of the Center for Comparative Socio-Economic and Political Studies;
  • •    Egor Palamarchuk, Junior Research Fellow of the Center for Strategic Planning Studies;
  • •    Ksenia Karasik, Senior Research Assistant of the Center for Strategic Planning Studies.

The seminar was moderated by Tatiana Khaynatskaya, Cand. of Science (Politics), Research Fellow of the Center for Comparative Socio-Economic and Political Studies, and Alina Vernigora, Junior Research Fellow of the Center for Strategic Planning Studies.

The participants of the event discussed key approaches to formulating research questions and testing hypotheses in contemporary studies of international relations. Particular attention was paid to the differences between qualitative and quantitative methods, their potential, and limitations.
