
On June 10, 2024, a Scientific Seminar of the Center for European Studies of IMEMO “Fifth Consecutive Early Parliamentary Elections in Bulgaria: Moving Forward or Marking Time?” was held in person in room 17-05.
The report “Election Results: Internal Political Causes and Consequences” was delivered Nikolay Podchasov, Senior Researcher of the Center for European Studies of IMEMO, Cand. of Science (History). He presented an analysis of the causes of internal political crisis of 2021-2023 and suggested why the creation of a "broad coalition" government in June 2023 did not lead to an end to internal political turbulence.
Ekaterina Shumitskaya, Senior Researcher of the Center for European Studies of IMEMO, Cand. of Science (Politics), made a report on the topic “Foreign Policy Aspects of the Bulgarian Crisis”. Having assessed the dynamics of the foreign policy and foreign economic line of the Bulgarian governments in the period from 2021 to 2024, she offered her own interpretation of the causality between the events of the internal party-political struggle, fluctuations in public sentiment and Sofia's actions in the international arena.
