Scientific Conference “Afghanistan: 3.5 Years of Taliban Rule”

On March 17, 2025, Gleb Makarevich, Junior Research Fellow of the Center of the Indo-Pacific Region of IMEMO, presented a report “Significance of Border Clashes for Afghan-Pakistani Relations” at the Scientific Conference of the Afghanistan Sector of the Center for Near and Middle East Studies of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences “Afghanistan: 3.5 Years of Taliban Rule”.

The speaker examined the evolution of Afghan-Pakistani relations after 2021, listed the features of the latest armed clashes on the border of the two countries, and also pointed out their significance for bilateral ties and regional security. The presentation emphasized that the armed confrontation does not bring qualitative changes to the conflict between the countries, but only demonstrates the depth of the crisis in the relations between Islamabad and Kabul.
