The monograph by Alexandra Voitolovskaya, Research Fellow of the Sector of US Foreign and Domestic Policy of the Center for North American Studies of IMEMO, Cand. of Science (Politics), “Crises in the USA. Experience of Presidential Decisions” has been published.
How are political decisions made in the USA? In the context of high tension in Russian-American relations, this question has not only scientific but also practical significance. For the foreseeable future, the United States will continue to be a significant international player and a dangerous adversary, so studying the logic of thinking and actions of American presidents, including in crisis situations, is the key to understanding their current positions and predicting future actions.
The monograph examines not only the institutional foundations of the political process, but also the factor of personality: politician, bureaucrat, representative of a certain influence group. A combination of political psychology approaches and case studies from recent US history will allow the reader to see how the personal characteristics of political leaders influence the policy of a world power.
