266On April 18, 2014, the interinstitute and interdisciplinary seminar "The Turkish model of modernization" was held in the Institute of World Economy and International Relations, Russian Academy of Sciences. Dina Malysheva, the head of sector in the IMEMO and the doctor of political sciences, examined political transformation of modern Turkey. The speaker paid special attention to drastic changes in Turkish political system. The antagonistic relations between secular and religious forces and the phenomenon of the “Turkish spring” were also analysed. The important features of the Turkish economic model were presented by Natalya Ulchenko, the head of the sector in the Institute of Oriental Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences, and the candidate of economic sciences. Main focus of Ulchenko’s attention was on economic populism, the role of state in the industrialization and Turkish similarity to the newly industrial countries.
