International Consonance: IMEMO Lecture Hall

On October 12, 2024, in the Academician Inozemtsev conference Conference Hall, the IMEMO Center for Development and Modernization Studies held the event “International Consonance: IMEMO Lecture Hall” as part of the All-Russian Festival “SCIENCE 0+”. 

IMEMO experts delivered 8 popular science lectures, in which they examined the role of science and technology in modern socio-political processes, talked about how the theory of international relations explains the events taking place in the world, touched upon a number of regional and country aspects of world politics, and also discussed with the participants the problems of determining the contours, form and content of the emerging world order.

The audience of the Lecture Hall was more than 50 schoolchildren, students, postgraduates and specialists from various universities and scientific organizations, as well as the employees of the Institute.

  • 14:00–15:00 “Science as a Language of International Communication: the Meaning and Purpose of Scientific Diplomacy” Alexandra Khatkevich (Junior Research Fellow of the Center for Development and Modernization Studies);
  • 15:00–16:00 “Popcorn Diplomacy: Blockbusters and Politics” Uliana Artamonova (Cand. of Science (Politics), Research Fellow of the Center for North American Studies);
  • 16:00–17:00 “Life of Others: Underrepresentation of Small Groups in Power on the Example of East Germans” Maria Khorolskaya (Cand. of Science (Politics), Research Fellow of the Department for European Political Studies);
  • 17:00–18:00 “Who we are, where are we from, where are we Going: Historical Sociology of Non-Western Societies” Gleb Makarevich (Junior Research Fellow of the Center of the Indo-Pacific Region);
  • 18:00–19:00 “Fluid Worlds: Maritime Regional Studies and Problems of International Relations Theory” Alexey Kupriyanov (Cand. of Science (History), Head of the Center of the Indo-Pacific Region).
