6The international roundtable conference on the topic “The Problems and the Prospects for the Efficient Use of Water Resources in Russia and Central Asia” was held via videoconference on the platform of the Saratov State University n.a. N.G. Chernyshevsky on January 18, 2022.
Senior Researcher for the Section for Central Asia of the Center for post-Soviet Studies of the IMEMO, Cand.of Science (History) Stanislav Pritchin made a report “The political aspects of cooperation between the countries of Central Asia on the water and energy problem since 2016” during the event.
Heads of the international think tanks, leaders of the regional branch of the Russian Ecological Society, representatives of relevant committees, as well as members of the Parliament of Uzbekistan, professors and specialists in the field and many others attended the meeting.
The participants discussed the following issues:
- water and energy resources of Russia and Central Asian countries: the opportunities and the challenges;
- ensuring the energy security of Russia and the countries of Central Asia;
- the energy priorities of the upstream and downstream countries;
- the position of Russia on the water problem in Central Asia;
- the environmental problems of the Aral Sea;
- the transboundary problems in the Ural river basin;
- the transboundary problems in the Amur river basin;
- the environmental problems of the Arctic and their socio-economic consequences;
- the possibility of forming a supranational mechanism for a comprehensive solution of water management, energy and agricultural issues in Russia and the countries of Central Asia.
The event was organized by the information and analytical center “Eurasia - Povolzhye”, by the Scientific and Educational Centre for Cooperation with CIS and Baltic Countries of the Saratov State University n.a. N.G. Chernyshevsky, by the analytic portal “Delovaya Eurasia” and by the autonomus non-profit organization “Eurasian Initiative Information and Analytical Center”.
