10The international online conference “The NATO, Russia and the states of Central Asia in the light of the new geopolitical reality”, dedicated to the changes in the geopolitical reality in the years 2021-2022 and their impact on the regions of Central Asia, was held on the platform of the Autonomus Non-profit Organization “Central Asia Research Institute” on March 15-16, 2022.
The following reports were made during the first day of the event on March 15, 2022:
• “The impact of the Western anti-Russian sanctions on the economies of the states of Central Asian” by Head of the Section for Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine of the Center for post-Soviet Studies of the IMEMO Cand. of Science (Politics) Elena Kuzmina;
• “The challenges and the risks for the security of Central Asia in the current situation and the opportunities to respond to them” by Senior Researcher for the Section for Central Asia of the Center for post-Soviet Studies of the IMEMO Cand. of Science (History) Stanislav Pritchin.
- How will the Western partners behave, when the Russian military operation in Ukraine ends?
- Whether the NATO will develop any new initiatives for the expansion within Europe and beyond its borders and infringe the interests of Russia and its allies.
- Will the USA continue trying to strengthen the positions in Central Asia after their military and political flight from Afghanistan and the decrease in influence on the politics of Kazakhstan after the “January crisis” of the year 2022?
