16

On April 24, 2025, Alexander Lomanov, Deputy Director of IMEMO, Professor of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Dr. of Science (History), presented a report “Russia-China Cooperation as a Driver of Multipolarity” at the International Scientific Conference “New World Order: Formation of a Multipolar World and the Role of Russia” held in Moscow.

The starting point of the report was the common approaches of Russia and China to the formation of multipolarity and the new international order, which were publicized in 1997. Subsequent development of Russian-Chinese cooperation allowed the two countries to create relations of equal partnership based on a high degree of mutual trust. This model of relations has become an attractive example for the countries of the Global South interested in the establishment of a new world order. At the same time, in the current situation, the trend of multipolarization of the world in the West is often identified with chaos and the collapse of global governance mechanisms. Russia and China face the task of making the process of multipolar world formation more manageable and orderly, to develop common approaches to multipolarity together with the Global South.

Conference organizers: Institute of World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Russian Historical Society, Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Institute for Advanced Research in History.
